USAPay Insights answers one question precisely: what does an American job actually leave you after tax?

Official sources publish gross wages. Every other calculator asks you to type a number. Almost nobody puts the two together and tells you that the median registered nurse in Texas earns a specific amount and keeps a specific amount of it. That gap is the entire reason this exists.

Who builds it

USAPay Insights is built by Avowd, a Vancouver studio that measures and improves how brands appear in AI answers, as one of its own projects — not a client site. It is edited by Avowd's founder, Travis Zhang (Qi Zhang), who also builds the Canadian sister site, CanPay Insights. He is not a tax professional and does not present himself as one: the site's claim to be right rests on the documents, not on a credential. Every rate is read from the IRS, the SSA or the state's own revenue department, the engine is checked on every build against IRS Publication 15-T and California’s and New York’s withholding tables, and each source and the date it was read is listed on the methodology page. What this site is not

USAPay Insights is a free calculator for individual workers, not a payment company: it is not USAePay (a payment gateway), not USPay (a payment processor), and does not move money or process transactions. It is also not PayInsights (payinsights.com), a compensation-benchmarking platform sold to employers. It was called Take-Home Almanac until September 2026, and is unrelated to The Home Almanac (homealmanac.us), The Old Farmer's Almanac or the Texas Almanac. It is not a payroll or tax-filing service.

How it works

There is no lookup table of pre-computed answers. Every figure on this site is calculated at build time by this site’s own tax engine, which applies published IRS and state revenue department rates. When a rate changes, one file changes and every page on the site is correct again. You can read exactly what the engine does on the methodology page.

How it is funded

There is no advertising on this site and there never will be. Ad clutter is precisely what makes the incumbent paycheck calculators unpleasant, and running ads would mean optimising for pageviews instead of for answering the question quickly. If this ever earns money it will be through relevant affiliate links, clearly marked, on pages where they genuinely help.

What it will never do

Independence and limits

This is an independent project, not a tax preparer, and nothing here is tax advice. The figures are annual tax liability computed on wage income with the standard deduction. The calculator adds 401(k), HSA and cafeteria-plan contributions and city or county tax when you enter them; the published pages leave them out. Dependents and itemised deductions are not modelled anywhere. Where a figure is approximate, the page says so rather than hiding it.
